Why SPF 30 and not 50?

SPF 30 blocks about 97% of UVB; SPF 50 about 98%. The difference that matters is how much you apply and whether you reapply. Under-applied, both collapse to near the same place.

Who should use more than SPF 30?

If you're treating melasma or dark marks, are pregnant, take a medication that increases sun sensitivity, have a photosensitive condition, are recovering from a procedure, or spend long hours outdoors, guidelines recommend SPF 50 or higher with UVA and visible-light protection. What if I use too little?

Protection falls off a cliff. Half the dose gives about the square root of the label; a quarter dose gives about the fourth root. SPF 30 at a quarter dose is roughly SPF 2. Measure a full dose once (two finger-lengths) so you never guess.

I have dark skin. Do I need sunscreen?

Yes. Melanin gives deeply pigmented skin roughly the protection of an SPF 13, which is why it burns less. It does nothing against the visible light that darkens melanin-rich skin, and it doesn't stop UVA from deepening marks.

Does BluVeil protect against visible light?

BluVeil doesn't contain iron oxides. Visible light is the exposure most sunscreens ignore and the one that matters most for pigment on deeper skin.

Will it leave a white cast?
