The question
Is there a way to even out my skin without bleaching it?
What's happening in your skin
Bleaching creams work by shutting down pigment production everywhere they're applied, often with hydroquinone at unregulated strengths, potent steroids, or mercury. They lighten marks and unaffected skin alike, and long use damages both. Treating a mark means targeting the excess pigment where it sits and leaving the rest of your skin alone.
What the research shows
Pooled lifetime prevalence of skin bleaching is 27.7% globally; in some urban populations it exceeds 70%.

Non-hydroquinone combinations approach hydroquinone's results with better tolerability for long-term use.

Our answer
A mark is a mark. Your tone is not one. Treat the mark with targeted actives, protect the skin around it, and refuse anything that promises to lighten your face.
ActionRead the ingredient list of anything you use for dark spots; if it contains hydroquinone, ask who's supervising it.
